A charmosa Castellfollit de la Roca
November 23, 2017The charming town of Castellfollit de la Roca, is a Pueblo, with 993 population, It is a finding, because it is quite different, It sits high on a cliff, há 13km Besalú, in the province of Girona in Catalonia region, in Spain.
We went to medieval city of Besalú, Wonderful, spend a weekend and were looking for in blogs and guides what to do there, or around there and to our surprise we found this mini super charming town of Castellfollit de la Roca.
We did not know, but there is a mining basalt in this pueblo, It is the only one active in Spain since 1929. The cliffs that speak up, It has more than 50m in height and nearly 1km in length, they are a result of the erosive action of Fluviá Toronell and rivers on the volcanic remains of thousands of years.
When we went there, we drive down a road he saw the city below and saw this beautiful image, but we wanted to know how we would do to go up there, then we continue straight for a few meters with our car in a micro road and found a small free parking, near a bridge and right after this bridge has some signs indicating where to follow, we thought it was be very tiring because the height, but in the end it was not so much and we got very quickly, We linger around 10 minute walk, and when we arrived we were immediately to the lookout, You have the option to pay to go up in the church gazebo, It is quite cheap, 1 euro if I remember correctly, but we bullshit, because we were already high enough for us to see everything lol and then we walk a little by the small pueblo, I confess that I found the most beautiful pueblo from down there, because many houses are already coated with cement and not stone, which breaks a little charm, leaves everything cooler and many houses were abandoned and half sale, but still very worth up to meet.
But we speak the most beautiful is the view beneath the city, the best point is along the river and the bridge that crosses the river, one must view.
