What Barcelona Traditional Festivals
April 23, 2012 0 By Christian Gutierrez and Priscilla GutierrezVerbena de San Juan (24 July) - Saint John's festival
Feast dedicated to Saint John and the early summer in Europe (North hemisphere), in the region of Catalonia is tradition to light fires in all the squares and streets, besides releasing many fireworks until dawn.
For us Brazilians the party is very similar to our New Year's Eve, because everyone goes to the beach to celebrate the date until the next day, the city stops to be able to celebrate, everyone goes to the streets and beaches. In my opinion it's the best party in town.
Fiesta de San Jordi (23 of April) - Feast of St. George
this day, known as the feast of the book and the rose, coincides with the birthday of St. George (patron saint of Catalonia). According to legend, St. George killed the dragon frightened the people and the blood of the dragon was born a rose that the saint gave a gift to his princess. Custom says that on that day the lovers (as) should give away books and roses to (at) their (your) beloved (as).
This party is very traditional to Barcelona and Catalonia, if you are there do not miss the party.
Party Garcia (16 from April to 27 of April)
Traditional city music festival, It takes place in several stages throughout the city, i think it's the second best party in town.
Festa de La Merce (24 of September)
Festa to celebrate Virgen de la Merced, party with typical traditional dances. I particulary, I didn't like the party very much.
