Batalha Monastery, one of the seven wonders of Portugal
September 25, 2018O Batalha Monastery, in the town of Batalha in Portugal, It is a super interesting tourist attraction in Portugal for those who make a car script by country, as we did on our trip, We began the journey through Porto, in the north, where we arrived by plane from Barcelona, We rent a car (We caught at the airport) and we went to the Algarve region in the south, were almost 10 days getting to know the beautiful landscapes and history of this beautiful country.
In our port of departure for Lisbon, these two cities along with Pera and Évora Pera were the bases cities we stayed at in Portugal, this trip we stopped in several cities, Coimbra, Fatima, Battle, Alcobaça and Nazaré, all are small towns and getting to know a few hours, of course if you can stay longer is always better, but time always missing in our travels as, always we want to know everything lol.
We arrived at the Batalha Monastery in the afternoon, the place is beautiful a work of art, a part of the monastery can get free, but other parts have to pay to visit, we only went on the free parts.
The monastery with Gothic architecture, It was built in honor and thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary, the victory of the troops of Portugal against the Castilians at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385, the promise was fulfilled by King John I of Portugal. The battle lasted from 1383-1385. The monastery took two centuries to build, started in 1386 and finished 1517, during the reign of nearly seven kings.
National Monument was declared in the year 1907. In the year of 1980, the monastery was turned into a museum. In 1983, It was incorporated by UNESCO on its list of World Heritage places and 2007 He was elected as one of 7 Wonders of Portugal.
We were in the city of Battle for 1 hour and a half, a reasonable time to know it, the most interesting part of the city is actually the monastery, and still we had many other stop before arriving in Lisbon, the next stop was also in another monastery, but it was the Alcobaça.
In these next few days will tell much more here in TurMundial, about our Screenplay by Portugal North to South, do not miss the next posts, We will give many hints about these amazing places.
